Admire the rich history of Luxembourg City

What began as a simple watchtower on a Roman road has become a vibrant capital where restaurants fill cobblestoned streets and centuries-old squares. Perched on a rocky promontory and tumbling down to the valley below, this strategic city became so fortified with its Casements defence tunnels that it was dubbed the Gibraltar of the North. Take in valley views from the Chemin de la Corniche, then head down to the medieval Grund quarter, with its half-timbered houses overlooking the Alzette River. Don’t miss a wander around the more elevated part of the city, which is home to the turreted Grand Ducal Palace.
Enjoy sparkling vintage wines in Moselle

A serene escape less than an hour from the capital, Luxembourg’s Moselle Valley produces some impressive wines with unique flavour profiles. The vineyards are fed by the meandering Moselle River, a tributary of the mighty Rhine, and the region’s winemaking heritage dates back to Roman times. The Riesling wines produced here are slightly sweeter than their German counterparts across the river in Mosel, and the sparkling Crémant wines have also made quite a name for themselves. Explore picture-perfect villages, visit a vineyard or two and drink a toast to this delightful region.
Hike the gorges of the Mullerthal Trail

Affectionately known as Little Switzerland, the Mullerthal region is an extensive network of hiking trails through deep forests, craggy rocks and waterfalls pouring down ravines. Rough paths are interspersed with arched bridges and hewn stonework steps that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. You can roam between isolated castles, prehistoric caves, curious rock formations and dramatic canyons, with three loops making up the 112km trail. There’s a range of difficulty levels to suit all fitness levels – either opt for an independent trek through well-signposted routes, or go with a local guide.
Take in renaissance beauty at Wiltz Castle

Set on a promontory overlooking the city of Wiltz, this sprawling Renaissance castle is all cream-hued elegance and steep-pitched roofs. Today it is home to the National Museum of Brewing and the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, and also hosts summer concerts at an amphitheatre in the grounds, with the castle as a backdrop. Originally built in the 13th century by the Counts of Wiltz – among the oldest families in Luxembourg – centuries of incursions saw it rebuilt multiple times. The latest iteration took nearly 100 years and was completed in 1727.
