Adventure to the northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates, Ras Al Khaimah, and you'll find an exciting mixture of deserts and beaches. Kick back on some of the best coastline in the gulf – there's over 40 miles of it, in fact – before exploring the lively capital city, of the same name. Here, the shopping centres, large Mohammed bin Salem Mosque and mountaintop Dhayah Fort from the 19th century reign supreme. The emirate is surrounded by the fierce Hajar Mountains, and is home to Jebel Jais, the UAE's tallest mountain and mineral-rich hot springs.
