The Real Alcazar – A masterpiece of the Mudéjar style

Stunning keyhole arches and multifoil arches, common in Islamic architecture, abound in this palace, built on the site of a former Moorish fort, mostly in the Mudéjar style that blends Moorish and European architectural forms. Intricate plasterwork combines Islamic designs with Christian symbols, and elaborate decoration is prominent.Highlights include the spectacular domed ceiling in the Ambassadors' Hall and the contrasting Gothic Palace's Salón de los Tapices. Here, the room's elegant simplicity helps focus your attention on the magnificent tapestries on the walls.Still used as a royal residence, the Alcazar is the oldest royal palace in Europe.
Stand in awe at the grandeur of the Plaza de España

Approach this enormous semi-circular plaza in the north-eastern part of the Maria Luisa Park and your eye will no doubt be drawn to the grandiose neo-Mudéjar edifice that embraces the plaza's arc. You might also gaze longingly at the refreshing waters of the monumental fountain as they shoot high into the air.A canal frames the fountain area and four bridges lead towards the arched walkway of the building. In front of this, you will find 48 colourfully tiled areas representing each of Spain's Provinces.Complete your visit by hiring a boat on the canal and enjoy ‘the Venice of Seville'.
Relax in the old-world appeal of the Barrio Santa Cruz

Take a stroll down narrow cobblestone lanes past whitewashed houses and soak in the old-fashioned charm of the Barrio Santa Cruz.Once the city's Jewish quarter under Moorish rule, it now houses the Centro de Interpretación Judería de Sevilla, a museum highlighting the history of the city's Jewish population.Relax at an outdoor café in one of the picturesque plazas under the shade of an orange tree or check out the Christopher Columbus monument in the peaceful Jardines de Murillo public gardens.You might also wish to investigate the Spanish art at the Hospital de los Venerables Sacerdotes.
La Torre Giralda – A remarkable marriage of styles

This cathedral bell tower dominates the Seville skyline. Comprising the minaret of the former Great Mosque and the 16th-century bell tower addition, the Giralda reaches an impressive 104 metres high, including the Giraldillo statue weathervane.You can ascend the tower for a marvellous view of the city without climbing any stairs, as there are ramps leading all the way up.From the ground, you can admire how well the distinct styles of the two sections work together, the delicate patterns of the minaret and the bold Renaissance ornamentation forming a wonderful whole.
