Uganda – Land of Beauty, Land of Splendour, Land of Nature

Your holiday in Uganda will no doubt focus on the magnificent wildlife and stunning landscapes of the Republic’s ten national parks but the ‘land of beauty’ is also blessed with other attractions. Visit the capital, Kampala, and discover a vibrant city rich with monuments, museums and religious sites, as well as galleries, theatres and sporting events. Look around the Kasubi Royal tombs and learn about Buganda culture. Look back as far as two million years ago at the Uganda National Museum. Alternatively, the bustling markets of Owino and Nakasero may give you a great insight into Kampala's daily life. Away from the capital, you may come across the pretty red-and-white-brick St Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu, built in the 1930s. This Catholic cathedral is known for sheltering civilians and children during the insurgency of the 1980s and is full of local history. It's well worth asking the Parish Priest or a catechist to show you around.
