Explore the modern and medieval fusion of Tsminda Sameba Cathedral

Otherwise known as The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Tsminda Sameba is one of the country's most magnificent cathedrals. From its prime location on the hill of St. Elijah, Tsminda Sameba watches over the city below and you can easily spot it from wherever you are in Tbilisi. There is plenty to discover during your visit to the Cathedral, including a monastery, theology school, bell tower and nine separate chapels, five of which are underground. The architecture of the Cathedral is an intriguing fusion of contemporary and medieval influences. Its opulent golden dome will impress you, and you will appreciate the grand interior, which is adorned with decorative mosaics.
Observe Tbilisi from above with a ride on the Funicular

Take a ride on Tbilisi's Funicular, which ascends towards Mt Mtatsminda with three stations dotted at the bottom, middle and top of the mountain. As you rise above the city, the views will impress you as they become all the more breathtaking. Stop off at the middle station to visit the historic Church of Father David and the Pantheon of Public Figures. Once you reach the top, you will arrive at Mtatsminda Park, where a number of eateries will be ready to serve you, as well as an amusement park that satisfies family days out and thrill-seekers alike.
Marvel at the ancient history of Narikala Fortress

Another destination to observe Tbilisi from above is the ancient Narikala Fortress overlooking the capital from its strategic hilltop location. You can access the Fortress either by walking up from the picturesque Meidan area, or by taking a cable car from Rike Park. With walled sections dating back as early as the 4th century, Narikala Fortress has cemented its status as an ancient symbol of the city's defensive strength. While there, visit St. Nicholas Church, and marvel at the beautiful frescos inside, depicting scenes from the Bible as well as Georgia's history.
