Bahrain – A marvel archipelago in the Arabian Gulf

Bahrain, an archipelago set on the southwestern Persian Gulf, boasts everything from grand resorts and a sparkly skyline to ancient burial sites and bustling bazaars. Impressive architecture sets the tone here. The Bahrain National Museum is home to historic manuscripts and a reproduction of a traditional market, and there's the Al Fateh Grand Mosque, which is one of the largest in the world. To get to the heart of the tradition here, head to the Manama Souq in the capital of Manama. Lose yourself between the stalls, browsing for pearl-studded gold jewellery, exotic Persian rugs and local spices. A visit to the UNESCO-listed Portuguese fort site, dating from the 16th century, is also a must. Relax on the beach, take a day trip to Al-Dar islands, or drive to the nearby Anwaj Islands that form the floating man-made resort city. Alternatively, splash about at The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, or spot Arabian leopards at the Al Areen Wildlife Park & Reserve.
